The term “dual diagnosis” is often heard in treatment. This is also called comorbidity. A person suffering with addiction is often suffering with mental illness at the same time. People suffering with different forms of mental illness and addiction have dual diagnosis.
If you have a history of a mental illness or have relapsed, it is imperative for you to have psychiatric care in addition to treatment.
Seastone understands the importance of treating the whole person. We treat addiction, physical health, spiritual health and your mental health. It is impossible for anyone to be successful in recovery if they have not addressed all aspects of health and well-being.
Psychiatric evaluation takes place immediately at Seastone. An initial evaluation is performed by an intake professional. This evaluation gathers basic information about your mental health and medical history.
Within the first 72 hours of entering treatment, you will undergo a psychiatric evaluation performed by our psychiatrist. This evaluation may take up to 2 hours. It is necessary for our psychiatrist to fully understand you and to be able to make a proper diagnosis.
You may already have been diagnosed and be taking medications. Our psychiatrist will assess whether your current medications are appropriate and monitor their effectiveness. The psychiatrist may even make recommendations to change your medications.
Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether or not you want to take medication that is/may be prescribed.
We encourage you to be compliant with taking medications prescribed to you and to work closely with the psychiatrist in monitoring the effects of these medications. We will educate you and trained staff will assist you in monitoring and handling your medications.
After initial evaluation, you will have follow-up visits with the psychiatrist. Our psychiatrist is on-site weekly.
Working closely with the psychiatric component of addiction is key to achieving successful treatment.
Our Medical Director is a Psychiatrist. This sets us apart from other treatment centers. Here you will not be seeing a nurse practitioner or a standard medical doctor. We believe in going the extra mile to help you achieve sobriety and recovery in every way possible.
